Undefeated WBA Welterweight World Champion Keith Thurman returns to the BROOKLYN BOXING ring to defend his title against battle-hardened veteran Josesito Lopez on Saturday, January 26 at Barclays Center. A heavyweight bout between Brooklyn’s Adam Kownacki (18-0, 14 KOs) and Gerald Washington (19-2-1, 12 KOs), of Vellejo, California, also will be broadcast by FOX that night.
Also in action in the co-feature is fast-rising unbeaten heavyweight contender Adam Kownacki who will clash with Gerald Washington.
The Thurman-Lopez card will also include a heavyweight matchup between unbeaten Adam Kownacki (18-0, 14 KO) and Gerald Washington (19-2-1, 12 KO).
Keith Thurman enters this fight with a 28-0 record that includes 22 knockouts. This will be Thurman’s second fight since 2017, and he’s coming off a March (2017) win over Danny Garcia. Thurman is finally back in the ring after nearly two years off, as he had surgery on his elbow after the Garcia fight and battled another injury to his left hand. Thurman was rewarded the split decision victory in his last bout, even though Garcia landed a higher percentage of his punches.
It was announced that Thurman would finally return to the ring on January 26, 2019, defending his WBA (Super) welterweight title against veteran boxer Josesito López (36-7, 19 KOs) at the Barclays Center in New York City. The card was scheduled to be broadcast on FOX and FOX Deportes. Speaking on his inactivity, Thurman stated he only wished to have one tune-up fight (against López), followed by a busy year where he wished to remain active .
